Character of the New Man

¹² Therefore, ^(A)as the elect of God, holy and beloved, ^(B)put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; ^13 (C)bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. ^14 (D)But above all these things ^(E)put on love, which is the ^(F)bond of perfection. ¹⁵ And let ^(G)the peace of God rule in your hearts, ^(H)to which also you were called ^(I)in one body; and ^(J)be thankful. ¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another ^(K)in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. ¹⁷ And ^(L)whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Put on Christ

¹¹ And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time ^(A)to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. ¹² The night is far spent, the day is at hand. ^(B)Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and ^(C)let us put on the armor of light. ^13 (D)Let us walk ^[a]properly, as in the day, ^(E)not in revelry and drunkenness, ^(F)not in lewdness and lust, ^(G)not in strife and envy. ¹⁴ But ^(H)put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and ^(I)make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

^2 (A)Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, ³ as His ^(B)divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him ^(C)who called us by glory and virtue, ^4 (D)by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be ^(E)partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the ^[a]corruption that is in the world through lust.

Fruitful Growth in the Faith

⁵ But also for this very reason, ^(F)giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue ^(G)knowledge, ⁶ to knowledge self-control, to self-control ^[b]perseverance, to perseverance godliness, ⁷ to godliness brotherly kindness, and ^(H)to brotherly kindness love. ⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither ^[c]barren ^(I)nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For he who lacks these things is ^(J)shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

¹⁰ Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent ^(K)to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; ¹¹ for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

⁹ But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of ^(A)darkness into His marvelous light;

^27 (A)Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that ^(A)in Me you may have peace. ^(B)In the world you ^[a]will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, ^(C)I have overcome the world.”

^16 (A)All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, ^(B)and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for ^[a]instruction in righteousness,
